Civil Defence Officer shoots, kills Onyedikachi Atuwa over road argument.

A Civil Defence Officer has been brutally beaten after he shot and killed Onyedikachi Atuwa, Father Of 3, in Abia, Nigeria.

Reports filtered into the social media sphere that a Civil Defence Officer shot and killed a man, Mr Onyedikachi Atuwa, from Umuokpo village in Akalaba in Obingwa LGA of Abia State.

The deceased was killed in the late hours of September 8 2020 after an argument over the bad condition of Aba Ikot Ekpene road.

The officer is one of the security personnel attached to a certain foreigner heading to Akwa Ibom State.

Onyedikachi Atuwa engaged the Civil Defence Officer in an argument.

Due to the bad state of the roads, their vehicle wanted to pass through Onyedikachi’s compound but the young man refused and insisted they follow the main road.

Winesses quoted Onyedikachi stating that his father’s compound can never be turned to a main road.

According to an eyewitness, the security man came down from the vehicle, pointed a gun at the young man and shot him three times at close range which resulted to his death.

Youths in the community protested the corpse after beating up the officer, who was seen in a bloody state.

The Nigerian security outfits have been in the eye of the storm over extra judicial and unprovoked shootings. This latest case will sure be a source of headache to the heads of the security units.

As at the last update, the Nigerian Police in Abia state as well as the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps have promised to unravel the immediate and extant causes of the incident.

The deceased left behind his wife and 3 children.
