Chilean taekwondo athlete Fernanda Aguirre tested positive on arrival in Tokyo, after travelling from Uzbekistan where she had been preparing for the Games.
The Chilean Olympic Committee announced on Tuesday Aguirre is “asymptomatic and in good health”. Dutch skateboarder Candy Jacobs also tested positive after arriving in Japan, and is said to be “heartbroken” at having to make the difficult decision to pull out of the Games.

Host nation Japan took the first Tokyo 2020 victory, defeating Australia 8-1 before the United States beat Italy 2-0. Canada closed out Day 1 with a 4-0 victory over Mexico.
